ING. JULIAN MENDEZ GARCIA CONTINUES TO STONEWALL The reunion included Sergio Antonio Cadena Martinez, Municipal President of Catemaco, other members of the municipal government including Prtección Civil, Efrain Flores Centeno, Regional Representative of SEMARNAT, Ing. Tomas Martínez Martin, Regional Representatve of PROFEPA, Francisco Jose Gomez Marin, Biologist, Reserva de la Biosfera - Los Tuxtlas, DEMATAC, representatives of the two gravel pits, and residents of the affected areas. The meeting began with the reading of the minutes of the September 22, 2005 reunion concerning the case of the gravel pit run by Ing. Julian Méndez Garcia, “Agregados Catemaco”, aka “Los Patos”. Of the five established requirements to be completed by various members of the reunion prior to this meeting, only one by PROFEPA was completed. An extension was granted to Ing. Méndez, SEMARNAT, PROFEPA, Proteccion Civil, and the Reserva de la Biosfera – Los Tuxtlas, until February 20, 2006, at which time all requirements must be fulfilled or fines will be levied against Ing. Mendez. The reunion continued regarding the gravel pit operated by “Los Gracias”, “El Arenal y Ojo de Agua”. After concluding that “Los Gracias” have failed to comply with any and all requirements it was decided that the Municipal Government will file suit. Ing. Méndez continues to dodge his responsibilities and stonewall. His proposed plan for a “tourist center” was rejected out of hand by the Public Works engineer, Ing. Juvencio Moto, who referred to it as a “joke”. He has until February 20th to present a new plan. |
