| Project Grant The association Desarrollo Para Un Futuro Sustentable (Development for a Sustainable Future) negotiated funds from Fomento Social Banamex (Social Fomentation Banamex) and DIF del Estado de Veracruz (Comprehensive Family Development of the State of Veracruz) to finance 12 projects managed by 7 associations in Los Tuxtlas. DEMATAC will administer two projects (Project PET, below, & Project Tortugas), with a grant totaling $ 592,652.00 MXN (Mexican Pesos) General Objective: Promote the integrated management of solid waste by means of action oriented toward the motivation and training of developers for the adequate management of urban refuse within the region of Los Tuxtlas. Specific Objectives: 1) Design and apply a pilot program of environmental education on the importance of solid waste management 2) Set up community developers for the adequate management of solid waste 3) Promote community initiatives for the exploitation of solid waste by means of linking related institutions with the management program 4) Reinforce initiatives by the separation and stockpiling of solid waste materials, and domestic composting by means of trained promoters 5) Integrate community efforts relating to solid waste management 6) Assist in providing sustenance to the groups involved during the project process. 7)Execute an agreement with those experienced participants of the project to initiate an awareness campaign directed by the promoters 8) Reinforce the monitoring of the general inciatives during the training process (For detailed information in Spanish on the project, see link) |

| Women members of Promotores Rurales del Programa IMSS Oportunidades from the community La Palma participated in a domestic solid waste management workshop. The 22 members expressed a very positive attitude throughout the workshop. |

| The workshops with the women of IMSS Oportunidades and the "Sub-agent" of the community La Barra de Sontecomapan were successfully completed. After the workshops we distributed to the residents sacks of various sizes to be used for the collection and separation of solid waste and plastics for recycling and to prevent the continued burning of this material. Fourteen women from the community participated in the workshop. |
| We completed the workshop “How to Compost and the Benefits of Composting" with the members of the civil association "COSTA", in the community of Dos de Abril. Afterwards teams were formed to learn how to assemble the composters. At the end of the activities 25 persons recieved composters that DEMATAC purchased with funds from DIF Veracruz to complete the requirements of: “Programa de Educación Ambiental y Prevención de Desastres a través del Manejo de Residuos Producto de las Afectaciones Causadas por el Huracán Stan en la Región de Los Tuxtlas”, The recipients signed documents promising to care for and properly use the composters. |

| The womans group from IMSS Oportunidades that participated in the first workshop were characterised by their eagerness to express their opinions regarding the problems created by garbage and several explained the methods they use to limit the amount created. |
| In the community of Sontecomapan, after some confusion uniting the women involved in the program a "IMSS Oportunidad", the first workshop was successfully completed. |

| A workshop on the construction of "Estufas Lorenas" was held in the community of La Palma and presented by the Biologist Lucio Daniel Tehuitzil Valencia. Later, four women who participated in this workshop built these stoves in their homes. "Estuvas Lorenas" are stoves designed to reduce the consumption of firewood. |
| Delivery of Material to COSTA December 5, 2007 |
| The delivery of: 10 costalillas de jute (jute sacks), 2,000 plastic fiber sacks and 200 mega-sacks with a 1 ton capacity to the Civil Association "COSTA". They were deposited in the Centro de Acopio (recycling center) located in the community of Arroyo de Lisa, in the municipality San Andrés Tuxtla. These sacks are used for the collection of material to be recycled. This completes the distribution of material to COSTA as established in the project: "Programa de Educación Ambiental Causadas por el Huracán Stan, en la Región de Los Tuxtlas". |
| The final workshop was held in Sontecomapan where the participants presented excellant ideas to reduce the production of solid domestic waste. |
| The participants in these workshops consisted of a group of women very interested in resolving the problem of the accumulation of waste in their community. They now intend to use their newly acquired knowledge daily in an effort to solve the problem that all of us have in our homes - GARBAGE. These two workshops end the activities with the women from IMSS Oportunidades. In February, 2008 we will finalize the workshops: "Efficient Management of Domestic Solid Waste in Los Tuxtlas". |

| Report on "Proyecto Pet" in Montepio, San Anrés Tuxtla June 19, 2008 The report was presented to social and governmental institutions related to the Elisa Madero presented the advances made in the project "Construcción de Centro de Acopio" (Construction of the Recycling Center) in the community of Dos de Abril, in the municipality of San Andrés Tuxtla, granted by MIE - PNUD (Project for Integrated Management of Ecosystems - of the United Nations for Growth Program). Participating in the meeting were COSTA, La Reserva de la Biosfera - Los Tuxtlas, Lic. Nataly Rodríguez of the central offices of MIE - PNUD and Los Tuxtlas, Adalid Luna of Desarrollo para un Futuro Sustentable, and DEMATAC. |

| Presentation of Compactor October 14, 2008 |
| over by DEMATAC to the association "COSTA, A. C." today. It is located at the recycling center constructed in the as the association or the recycling center ceases to recycle, at which time the machine will be returned to DEMATAC. COSTA is responsible for using the compactor properly, for maintenance and expenses, and for safeguarding it. DEMATAC will periodically visit the recycling center to monitor the operation. Those attending the presentation included Julia Cruz Cruz, President of COSTA, A. C., Elisa Madero, in charge of the recycling center construction, Dora Luz Santiago Molina, Secretary of DEMATAC, Eduardo Alvares, DEMATAC Officer, and Lic. Jessica Hitandegüi Swanson Santiago, President of DEMATAC. Also present was Ing. Alejandro Sánchez of Ital Mexicana S. A., manufacturer of the compactor, who was kind enough to explain the proper use and care of the machine. With the presentation of this compactor, "Proyecto PET" is concluded. |
